How to pray the Chaplet of Five Wounds
A devotion of the Passionist Confraternity

The traditional way to pray this chaplet is to announce one of the five wounds at the beginning of each group of beads.
On each of the five small beads, pray 1 Glory Be
On each large bead or medal, pray 1 Hail Mary.

The Passionist devotion is also recognized. Either method may be used to gain the plenary indulgences approved by Pope Leo XII in 1823 and Pope Pius IX in 1851.

Make the sign of the Cross and say
O God, incline unto my aid.
O Lord, make haste to help me.

Then say 1 Glory Be
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

First Wound--The Left Foot.
My Crucified Jesus, I devoutly adore the painful wound of Thy Left Foot. Ah! by the pain which Thou didst feel therein, and by the blood which Thou didst shed from that foot, grant me the grace to fly the occasions of sin, and not to walk in the way of iniquity, which leads to perdition.
On each of the five small beads, pray
1 Glory Be
On the large bead or medal, pray
1 Hail Mary
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

Second Wound-The Right Foot.
My Crucified Jesus, I devoutly adore the painful wound of Thy Right Foot. Ah! by the pain which Thou didst feel therein, and by the blood which Thou didst shed from that foot, grant me the grace to walk constantly in the way of Christian virtue, even to the entrance of Paradise.
On each of the five small beads, pray
1 Glory Be
On the large bead or medal, pray
1 Hail Mary
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

Third Wound-The Left Hand.
My Crucified Jesus, I devoutly adore the painful wound of Thy Left Hand. Ah! by the pain which Thou didst feel therein, and by the blood which Thou didst shed from that hand, deliver me from being found at Thy left hand with the reprobate, at the last judgment.
On each of the five small beads, pray
1 Glory Be
On the large bead or medal, pray
1 Hail Mary
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

Holy Face of Jesus

Fourth Wound-The Right Hand.
My Crucified Jesus, I devoutly adore the painful wound of Thy Right Hand. Ah! by the pain which Thou didst feel therein, and by the blood which Thou didst shed from that hand, bless my soul and conduct it to Thy kingdom.
On each of the five small beads, pray
1 Glory Be
On the large bead or medal, pray
1 Hail, Mary
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

Fifth Wound-The Side
My Crucified Jesus, I devoutly adore the wound in Thy Sacred Side. Ah! by the blood which Thou didst shed from it, enkindle in my heart the fire of Thy love, and give me grace to persevere in loving Thee for all eternity.
On each of the five small beads, pray
1 Glory Be
On the large bead or medal, pray
1 Hail, Mary
followed by this prayer
Holy Mother! pierce me through,
In my heart each wound renew of my Savior crucified

There are many other ways to pray this chaplet. These are the two methods listed by the Passionist Confraternity and approved in general by the Holy See.
